About
Four physicians and recent medical school graduates, all former editors (the medical student section of the Journal of the American Medical Association), decided to make use of their national network of medical school student-writer contacts to put together a new kind of college guide, one that really tells you what it is like at a particular medical school. As far as we know, this is the first systematically organized guide blog to medical schools written by students for students.
Our goal was to cover all the accredited allopathic medical colleges in the fifty United States and the District of Columbia and as many of the accredited osteopathic colleges as we were able to. We have profiles of 122 accredited colleges of allopathic medicine in the United States and D.C. and sixteen accredited schools of osteopathic medicine. We did not extend our scope to Puerto Rican schools or to schools outside of the United States. We were not able to secure articles from students at two osteopathic colleges: West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine and University of Health Sciences College in Kansas City. Profiles for the medical colleges at the University of Cincinnati, University of Hawaii, University of Indiana, University of Massachusetts, and University of Texas at Galveston were composed by a professional writer from publicly available information. The remaining 129 profiles were written either by current upperclass students or recent graduates of the institution described
The authors were asked to describe, as only a student could, their school's overall image, admissions and financial aid characteristics, preclinical and clinical curriculum, school-based social life, living arrangements, locale, and student body, and provide a brief bottom-line summation. Length of the sections, emphasis, style, and focus were then left to each writer to shape. Articles vary from school to school in these details as well as the overall tone and reflect both the nature of the college and the individual writing the piece.
Except for the above-cited data, the information within each profile represents the opinions and views of each author and not necessarily those of goodmedicalschools.blogspot.com's. In most cases, officials of the institution did not review or approve the content of the article that describes their institution. goodmedicalschools.blogspot.com's did not verify and cannot vouch for the accuracy of information contained within these profiles.
